GeobirdFIELD NOTES / SEARCH STRATEGY

Why the basics of search still deserve your time.

Before chasing an AI visibility shortcut, check the information your website makes available to real people.

Begin with a page someone can use

If a potential customer lands on your service page, can they quickly understand what you do, who it is for and how to take the next step? That is a useful review question whether the visitor arrived through a search result, an AI answer or a recommendation from a colleague.

Make your expertise concrete

Explain your work in terms a customer recognises. Replace broad claims with useful details: the problem you help with, the process involved and relevant work you can genuinely show. A page about everything is often less useful than a focused page that answers a specific need.

Keep the technical basics in view

Google says established SEO practices still apply to its AI search features. Its guidance includes making content accessible to crawling, using internal links and keeping important information available as text. It does not prescribe a special AI schema or a new machine-readable file for inclusion.

Build connections people can follow

Link a service explanation to a relevant project or guide. Link an article to the subject it expands on. Use descriptive labels so a reader can predict what will happen next. Internal links should make the site easier to navigate, not turn every sentence into an opportunity to repeat a keyword.

Keep business facts consistent

Review how you describe the business across important pages and listings. Check names, locations, contact details and the services you actually provide. Consistency is useful because it reduces confusion for customers; it is not a guarantee that any platform will recommend you.

Review quality before volume

Google’s guidance on helpful content puts the reader’s needs ahead of content created mainly for search traffic. A practical starting point is to improve a small number of important pages: make the answers clearer, remove outdated information and show who is responsible for the content. Then review what changed before producing another batch of pages.
